A place where time at large has stood still and life is as natural as it once was. Throughout one day from early morning sunrise to the dense tropical midnight, surrounded by the birds and animals of the Atlantic rainforest - a natural habitat that today is almost lost from our planet - ABACAXEIRO tells the stories of the "Engenho" as the listener is taken on a musical journey in eight parts. Steinar Aadnekvam has lately recieved a growing attention as one of the most interesting and talented young guitarists from the Nordics, and several reviewers have drawn paralells to the great guitar virtuosos of the 1970s. Together with him in the Abacaxeiro project, we find noone less than the bassist Junior Areia, leader of the legendaric band Mundo Livre S/A and one of the forefigures in the important Brazilian ”Manguebeat” movement of the 1990’s. We also meet multiinstrumentalist Alexandre Ferreira, Latin Grammy nominated leader of the Brazilian pop group Cascabulho. Percussionist Carlos Amarelo is part of a movement that could be called “the beat of Recife”. He has collaborated with practically all of the important artists from the young, creative and explosive musicscene that has grown out of the state of Pernambuco during the last 20 years. Together with a tight piano trio (Guzman / Eldh / Anders Olsson) the 26-year-old guitarist does a tricky balancing act to show width without producing a fragmented impression. He switches from soft, commercial bossa in Jobim's "Photograph" to the nervier, club-inspired rhythms of "Song From The Tree Tops".
